Introducing our Ninth Generation!
We are excited to announce that five innovative startups have officially joined our portfolio through an intense selection process of the BIGinBIO program. Participants from countries including Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, as well as Canada and the United States, showcased their cutting-edge technologies.
Catalina Fernández, Program Manager, stated that «we are proud to see our scale-up program firmly established across Latin America. There’s a real interest in leveraging this opportunity to bring innovative technologies to competitive markets and impact the lives of millions of people worldwide.»
She added that «the selection process for BIGinBIO 2024 was certainly challenging. We selected startups that we can truly support in their development and internationalization».
The new cohort
Amplify Dynamics: Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are small, spherical vesicles that are revolutionizing drug delivery, offering unprecedented efficacy and control in protecting and transporting fragile drug molecules. The rise of nanotherapeutics like LNPs has become one of the most exciting developments in pharmaceutical technology today. However, a significant challenge in producing LNPs is overcoming the inefficiencies of current purification methods, which are often slow, wasteful, and expensive.
Amplify Dynamics developed the first nanoparticle filtration system that harnesses the power of ultrasound with nanoscale precision to separate LNPs from contaminants. Their contactless technology delivers fast, automated, high-performance purification without the need for costly membranes, enhancing the purity and safety of LNP therapies while accelerating the development pipeline for the next generation of life-saving treatments.
EYWA: WHO statistics reveal that one in four people worldwide suffer from psychiatric disorders, often treated with antidepressants.
In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the potential of psychedelics for mental health treatment. EYWA Biotech is dedicated to developing psychedelic compounds through a decentralized, accessible platform using sustainable processes. This approach empowers laboratories and research centers to conduct clinical studies, aiming to evaluate the efficacy of these compounds in providing more effective and long-lasting treatments.
Nanotransfer: Gene therapy holds the promise of transforming the lives of millions affected by genetic conditions by modifying a person’s genes to treat diseases at their molecular roots, offering hope for lasting cures. However, a major challenge has been effectively delivering these functional genes into damaged cells.
Nanotransfer is set to revolutionize this field. By creating the optimal vehicles for gene therapies, they are unlocking the full potential of these treatments. Their pioneering work ensures that next-generation therapies can reach all patients, democratizing access to gene therapies and significantly enhancing quality of life.
Patagon Fiber: Most inks on the market contain harmful and toxic ingredients like lead, mercury, and manganese. Patagon Fiber created DyeGon, a sustainable, zero-emission ink derived from bacteria found in Patagonia.
Patagon Fiber is planning to expand into the art and writing industry by creating sustainable inks, bringing eco-friendly alternatives to everyday use. Additionally, they aim to enter the fashion industry, a challenging market due to its high technical standards and the scale of global production, which contributes significantly to water pollution worldwide.
TELL: Neurodegenerative disorders affect millions globally, causing progressive damage to brain cells and nervous system connections critical for mobility, cognition, and social interaction. Early detection is key to enabling lifestyle changes and interventions that can delay the onset of severe symptoms as the disease advances.
This is where the TELL comes in! Developed by top researchers and digital health experts, this technology quickly and objectively assesses brain health using natural speech metrics, detecting and indexing the presence and severity of disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and more.
