Luyef Biotechnologies pioneers the future of food with First F-Label Approval

Luyef Biotechnologies has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first company to receive the F-Label certification for its precision fermentation-based myoglobin. This groundbreaking ingredient enhances the color, aroma, and taste of plant-based and cultivated meat products, bridging the gap between conventional meat and these sustainable and animal-free alternatives.
The F-Label is a new certification introduced by V-Label GmbH, an international organization based in Switzerland specializing in vegan and vegetarian certifications. This label provides transparency and clarity regarding ingredients produced using precision fermentation and other innovative animal-free technologies, including biomass fermentation, syngas fermentation, and cell-free synthesis.
Unlike traditional vegan certifications, which often address a broad range of ethical, environmental, and health considerations, the F-Label focuses specifically on verifying that no animals were involved in the production process.
While F-Label products are always animal-free, they are not necessarily “vegan” in the conventional sense—a term that can encompass various personal and ethical motivations, including concerns about animal welfare, environmental impact, and health. Instead, F-Label certification centers on production methods, ensuring no animals are used, even though the final product may be identical to those found in animal-derived foods.
This distinction is key for consumers who want clarity on whether a product is plant-like or animal-like by nature, helping them make informed choices that align with their values and dietary preferences.
Founded in 2020, Luyef Biotechnologies is a mission-driven DeepTech startup developing cutting-edge technology to produce high-value animal-derived compounds directly from cells—without factory farms or environmental trade-offs, offering solutions that replicate the functionality, and performance of traditional animal compounds, while being sustainable, ethical, and cost-effective.
Kris Blanchard, founder and CEO of Luyef Biotechnologies, stated that “securing the first-ever F-Label license for our myoglobin is a strategic milestone that reinforces our leadership in precision fermentation and commitment to transparency and innovation. We chose to work with F-Label because it offers a rigorous, science-based certification that not only builds consumer trust but also strengthens our positioning with partners and accelerates market adoption in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.”
The F-Label certification not only recognizes Luyef’s commitment to innovation and sustainability but also sets a precedent for other companies in the alternative protein industry. As consumer demand for healthier and more sustainable food options continues to rise. Certifications like the F-Label provide assurance and clarity, fostering trust and encouraging the adoption of animal-free products.
